An NFC (Near Field Communication) chip is a tiny, battery-free piece of technology that allows for “contactless” communication. Think of it like a digital version of a barcode, but instead of using a camera to see it, your phone uses a magnetic field to “feel” it.
No Power Needed: Passive NFC tags (like those in our wristbands) do not have a battery. They sit completely dormant until a powered device, like your smartphone, comes within an inch or two.
Energy Transfer: Your phone generates a tiny electromagnetic field. When you tap the phone to the bracelet, the chip “wakes up” by harvesting a tiny bit of that energy through a process called inductive coupling.
Data Exchange: Once powered for that brief second, the chip sends a small burst of data (like our website link) back to your phone, and then goes back to sleep.
